Kwando Lebala Camp - The Linyanti- Botswana

Lebala Tent by Martin Van Loggerenberg 2008
View Gallery View gallery

The Kwando private reserve, in northern Botswana is some 2 320 square kilometres in extent, and is home to only 2 Camps – Lebala Camp and Lagoon Camp, making this a truly remote and untouched area, and larger than some National Parks.

Lebala Camp enjoys extensive views over large tracts of open plains and wetlands, all of which form part of the Kwando-Linyanti floodplain system.

The Camp has been rebuilt, and boasts spacious accommodation for a maximum of 16 guests. Accommodation is in 8 uniquely designed luxurious ‘tents’, all of which have a private deck. The ‘walls’ of the tents are made from special shade cloth, in addition to a variety of curtains and shades, which allows you to decide how much light you want in the tent, and also completes the feeling of privacy. The shade cloth walls allow you to view the sunrises and sunsets from your room. The bedroom area is spacious, and the en suite bathroom includes bathtub, double basins, separate toilet, and double outdoor showers.

The central lodge area is reached by an elevated walkway, which leads in to a peaceful lounge, and bar area, all set under thatch. You can also enjoy the use of a swimming pool. In addition the Camp has a lapa, complete with fireplace, which is used for after dinner drinks.

Meals are based on excellent quality home style food, all of which is freshly prepared. Dining is usually alfresco, with the night sky as your ceiling.

The floodplains themselves are bordered by lines of tall and ancient leadwood trees. Lebala (‘Wide-open plains’) Camp is situated in the southern section of the reserve. Game viewing is done on morning and afternoon/ night drives. Game viewing varies with the seasons, and the dry months of June to September see larger concentrations of elephant and buffalo, in particular, which also attract lion and hyena. There is also the chance to see leopard, wild dog, cheetah, along with zebra, impala, waterbuck and tsessebe. With no more than 6 guests on the game drive vehicle there is good ‘visibility’ from the vehicle.

The night drives are conducted with a spotlight, which gives you the chance of seeing the nocturnal species.

You can also make use of a hide, at Camp, which allows for some excellent birding.
