Zibadianja Camp, The Selinda Reserve,
Botswana
Zibadianja Camp has been completely rebuilt, and is now one of the most luxurious Camps in Botswana, it has been moved to a location some 2 kilometres from the original camp. The new camp is set in an ancient Jackalberry and Red Ivory forest, with uninterrupted views of the floodplains. Zibadianja Camp is located in the extreme east of the Selinda Reserve on the floodplain that looks onto the Zibadianja Lagoon. The small waterhole in front of camp is a frequently used spot by elephants.
The new Camp is still small, and intimate, and accommodates only 8 guests. The 4 large, unique tents designed by world famous Wildlife photographers Derek and Beverly Joubert, are luxuriously appointed, and at some 100 metres square in size, are more than spacious. The tents are positioned along the edge of the forest, and each offers a spacious bedroom, separate lounge, en suite bathroom (complete with copper bath), and shower, and private plunge pool. You can also enjoy the shady veranda.
The main area is all under canvas and evokes the traditional safari ambience, with an emphasis on the view and the wildlife viewing out front. The lounge and dining facilities may be enjoyed under cover or on the full length deck shaded by giant broadleaf trees.
Meals are table d’hôte and include a light breakfast at dawn, a hearty brunch on return from the morning activity, afternoon tea and snacks before the afternoon activity, and finished off with a three course dinner in the evening. Mealtimes can also easily be adjusted to fit-in with game viewing.
Activities are flexible, and are based on the best times for game viewing – which is generally early morning and later afternoon/ evening, when game is more active. As the camp itself is in an excellent wildlife region, game viewing is often equally good from the comfort of your veranda. You might also wish to take a guided walk, from camp. In addition, there is a sunken hide in front of camp at a waterhole.
As would be expected from a Camp owned by Wildlife Photographers - each tent comes equipped with a Cannon EOS400D, and there is computer equipment to download and burn your photographs to CD. The Camp also has a specially equipped game viewing vehicle exclusively for photographers.
Elephant are common, with densities during the dry season on a par with those of the Chobe National Park. The lagoon is home to numerous hippo and crocodile, along with excellent birdlife. The hippo-killing lions of the Selinda are part of what has made this region famous. Their skill at hunting these huge beasts is legendary. One of Africa's most endangered predators, the Wild Dog, is usually resident and the Selinda pack frequently dens in close proximity to the camp. There are a good number of other species in the area, including buffalo, giraffe, zebra, wildebeest, hippo, hyena, a variety of antelope, and the chance to spot a number of nocturnal species on night drives.
